RE: the sale of Market Street -

Change happens :-)   Conversation centers  around several concerns:

  • The managing company recognizes the importance of the community "traditions" and has promised to help them "evolve" as the community grows;

  • There's a strong concern that the wide open space in downtown now used for parking will be "developed" soon;

  • and in a small world story - a French Immersion Classmate of Jen's is one of the folks who needs to relocate because the downtown apartments are being sold as condos ... he's found another apartment in town, but the sale of the apartments seems to be the biggest change in the direction of the community.

It's important to remember though that the sale of Market Street was not a surprise.  It was always part of the plan and my sense is that overall the community is confident that if it could work with Disney, it can work with anyone.

P.S.  Did you talk at all about the difference in the way the town is governed?  It took a second reading, and living here a while to understand the difference.  We pay county taxes to cover many of the "town" expenses we had in MA - Schools, roads, library, police etc. are all county.  We also share a zip code with Kissimmee and another planned community.  Our resident's fee pays for general town maintenance and the condo fee takes care of the building.  "Taxachusetts"  and "Fees R Florida" run about the same :-)
